Top Team Building Activities For Your Business

You have a business. You got your commercial real estate locked in by a good broker, like Steve Winger. Now, your team needs you. They need you as a business owner to help take a group of near strangers and turn them into a scrappy team that will work together to not only bring your customers an amazing experience, but will help your bottom line. When your team works together, everybody wins. Now, how to go about strengthening your team’s dynamic? It’s actually a pretty complex process, but there are some activities that you can deploy that will help make your team stronger than you ever thought possible. Let’s explore a few team building activities you can roll out right away.

The Food Castle Challenge

Talk about a “win win.” This team building exercise helps your employees work together with a common goal that ultimately ends up in a local food pantry or homeless shelter getting a substantial food donation. I think we all love that, no? Here’s how it works:

  • Start Out With A Food Drive

    • This part takes one full month. Have your team donate canned and non-perishable food items to a central bin in the office throughout the month. Split the company (if size allows) into teams and set performance goals for the teams to hit during the month. The team that does the best at each goal gets extra cans and supplies to build with.

  • At the end of the month, hold a half day competition, usually on a Friday afternoon.

  • Split the canned food up evenly between the teams and then award the winning teams their extra cans and supplies. (About 6 cans of canned food per each win).

    • Have each team use their cans and supplies to build the tallest free-standing “castle.”

    • The team that has the highest “castle” wins a small bonus like an extra day off or a gift card for a dinner and a movie, or something similar, (you decide).

The food castle challenge is great because it encourages high performance from your teams during the build up month, then they get to work as a team toward another common goal: building the tallest castle. After the dust settles, you’ll have teams that have been having fun competing against each other and a sizable donation of food to a good cause. This is a great one to do during the winter months since it can be done inside.

Casino Night

Who doesn’t love a friendly game of chance against their coworkers? Hosting a company wide casino night is a perfect way to break the ice with a new team or to reinforce team bonds among seasoned coworkers. This can be inexpensive to deploy and is timeless in its reusability. It will pay dividends (and jackpots!) for years to come.

To get started, set up some company wide metrics for your different departments or team members to hit. Whichever department meets their goals gets extra poker chips to start with during casino night the following month, similar to the canned food drive of the previous activity. This encourages high performance and team bonding during the lead up to the event. Everyone wants more free money to play with, right?

On the night of the event, set up at least four different tables with different games. Popular games are: Blackjack, Texas Hold’em Poker, Roulette, and Traditional Poker. As the teams compete, have them tally up their winnings at the end of the night at a predestined time. The team with the most winnings at the end of the night wins a prize!

Building a team is no easy task. It’s nice to be able to have some fun and build your company’s morale at the same time. Try these rewarding and fun team building activities at your business this year!
